One of the main differences between fruit and purees is that sugars and sweeteners are usually added to purees, which increase calories, and purees often have preservatives.

The fruit peels are also removed so that nutrients, like fiber, don’t make it in to the purees. Some of the nutrients that are also lost with the peel are carotenoids, which are strong antioxidants, and have been shown in studies to fight certain types of cancer.

The same is true for concentrates and juices, as they tend to be lower in nutrients due to processing and dilution. A lot of micronutrients are also completely lost and cannot be found on the labels. Processing, such as pasteurization, can destroy vitamins and minerals that are present in fresh fruit.

That’s it. fruit bars are made with only fruit. We never use purees or concentrates, and we never add sugar, artificial sweeteners or preservatives. We think fruit is sweet enough. Try them and see for yourself!
